Cover Look-Alikes and Other Bookish Things

The Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon (HarperTeen, 2011) and Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (German edition - Goldmann, Jul. 2012)

Memories of the Future by Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky (English edition - NYRB, 2009) and New from Nowhere by William Morris (Broadview edition, 2002)

Also, check out this cool video from Libba Bray about her upcoming novel, The Diviners (Sep. 2012). I've enjoyed Libba's other books, and even if the plot synopsis doesn't sound that interesting to me, this video changed my mind!

  1. I guess publishers just buy these pictures and use them. I would buy exclusive rights if I were them, but apparently not. I don't like it when two books have the same/similar cover.

    1. I think occasionally publishers will buy the rights, but usually they just don't bother. I've even seen the same cover on two different books from the same publisher.

I think it's kind of cool to be able to spot similarities. :) But it could get confusing when searching for books if one only remembers the cover, not the title...

  2. I love finding cover look alikes. One I've seen floating around lately is the picture for The Hedgewitch Queen and The Treachery of Beautiful Things. :)
