In My Mailbox #8

A modest IMM this week, but that's okay because I've had absolutely no time to read (the three reviews I've posted were books I finished last weekend or before) and because I ordered a huge batch of books from BookCloseOuts.ca as part of their $1.49 CAD children's book sale. They have over 2000 children's/YA books on sale, plus all of their inventory is always 50%+ off regular store prices. My mom and I ordered a total of nineteen books, all brand-new with the exception of two that are "scratch-and-dent" copies, and spent less than $60 including shipping. But, according to USPS tracking, our package is currently in Niagara Falls. Whenever it arrives, I will use my new school-issued Macbook to make my first IMM vlog. Since I can't wait for it to come, here are some highlights:

Okay, now for what actually came in my mailbox this week:

Won:
The Princess Bride by William Goldman (thanks, Belle's Bookshelf!)
Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine (thanks, Reading for Sanity!)
Signed and came with some swag. :)
Nobody's Princess by Esther M. Friesner (thanks, Books from a Shelf!)
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld (thanks, Bibliophile Anonymous!)
Amen, L.A. by Cherie Bennett and Jeff Gottesfeld (Random Buzzers Twitter)

I love the cover for The Princess Bride. It looks even better in person.

  2. That's a quite a haul for books that you won! And you did some frugal shopping with those books you ordered. What an awesome book week. :)

I had a good week, too. If you'd like, coem take a peek - http://beasbooknook.blogspot.com/2011/08/in-my-mailbox-2.html

  3. Awesome week! What a load of books you won, congrats!

I can't find the comment tab for the review for All the Things I've Done and my computer is loading REALLY slow so instead of clicking to reload the page I'm commenting about it here. Sorry!
I haven't read Zevin, but I had no idea this one was dystopia. And I love how you call it cozy dystopia and I TOTALLY know what you mean! I have to say that I love the crazy ones but they start to stress me out. Maybe if I just read fewer of them... anyway, this one sounds pretty good! I think I have one of her books here... I'm not sure which one. I'll have to dig around and find it cause I've heard good things about her. I'll have to check this book out though!

  4. Thanks for following, Grace!

Candace: For some reason comments had been disabled on that post, so thanks for alerting me to that and commenting anyway! I agree, the "cozy" dystopias can be a welcome relief from all the death-and-darkness crazy ones, even if you do love them.

I think Zevin is more of a fun author than a completely serious one, which makes All These Things enjoyable and contributes to its coziness. I would expect her other novels are similar in this.

  6. Princess Bride and Uglies are two of my favorites. The Uglies series is really, really good! I don't love the cover you've posted, but then how much does that matter? Enjoy!
